Third Year Abroad
Why not broaden your horizons by spending a year at one of the world's best Civil & Environmental Engineering schools while sampling the outdoor life in California or taking in the cultural activities of Boston? We offer our BE Civil Engineering students the opportunity to spend the third year of the programme abroad, in one of our partner Universities.
Students have travelled to the USA, the UK and Continental Europe. Specific destinations include the University of California at Irvine (Los Angeles) and at Berkeley (San Francisco Bay Area). Other US host universities have included Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT Boston) and Georgia Tech. In previous years students have also spent third year of the professional engineering course at one of Europe's top engineering schools, Ecole nationale des travaux publics d'Etat (ENTPE) in Lyon, France.
Funding is available from the EU's ERASMUS+ programme to assist with travel and accommodation costs when studying abroad in Europe. Like to learn a foreign language? You can take up to 20 credits worth of language tuition as part of your year abroad programme.
Gemma Cremen BE Civil & Environmental Engineering (2014)
“In the third year of the degree, I was lucky to have the opportunity to study abroad at the University of California, Irvine, an experience that greatly broadened my Civil Engineering knowledge and exposed me to exciting areas within the field such as Earthquake Engineering. Through the project conducted in the final year, I developed an interest in research which ultimately led to my decision to undertake graduate level study.”
