Community Week 2020
Register Your Event by Friday 30 October!
Building on the success of the inaugural programme run in 2019, UCC Community Week 2020 will be going on-line and run from 23-29 November. You are invited to register your event by Friday 30 October.
During the week, staff and students across the university, come together with community and public sector partners, hosting events and activities that raise visibility and awareness of the areas of their work that are making a difference and having societal impact.
In addition to some centrally co-ordinated events, the week welcomes a university-wide co-created programme that celebrates community and public sector partnerships and actively engages the public with what we do.
If you are planning to run a workshop, webinar or other event with a public, community or partnership focus in the Autumn semester, we encourage you to consider running it during this week. We welcome student-led events to the programme. Students wanting to register an event should identify a staff member to sponsor the activity and serve as lead contact for the purposes of registration.
It is an opportunity to collectively showcase how the University's open, inclusive campus, curriculum and research is connected with citizens and communities, for positive impact and playing an important role in society locally, regionally and globally.

It is important to note that:
- It is expected and recommedned that this year programme will be predominantly delivered online. If you are planning an off-line activity it is your responsibility to ensure that this is planned and delivered in line with all University and public health guidelines with respect to physcial distancing and gatherings.
- This year the European Researchers Night Cork Discovers programme will also run during Comminity Week. If you have responded to the call to participate in the Cork Discovers programme there is no need to register for Community Week as Cork Discovers will automatically feature in Community Week promotion of events taking place.
- The University-wide Community Week Programme will be promoted centrally. Registered events should plan to deliver their own activities to host, promote and secure audiences for their (online) events.
- Microsoft Teams is the recommended platform for on running online events such as webinars at UCC. Useful guidance from the AVMS team is available online here.
The Community Week initiative is sposored by the President's Office, overseen by the University’s Civic and Community Engagement Committee and led by the Office of Vice President for External Relations. It is delivered through an operational partnership between UCC Civic and Community Engagement and UCC Marketing and Communications.
The report 'Looking Back on 2019-Community Week' provides an overview of the last year's programme of activities, takes stock of learning from this first year and makes recommendations for going forward. The ambition is to continue to establish Community Week as a leading platform to communicate and mobilise UCC’s engaged mission, in partnership with all of our stakeholders and over a three-year period.
