Exhibition
Change the Beat! An exhibition by young asylum seekers, refugees and migrants on display at the Glucksman and venues across Cork city
Change the Beat! is an exhibition supported by the Arts Council of Ireland that showcases artworks created by teenage asylum seekers, refugees and migrants from Cork city and county.
The teenagers were invited to explore their relationship to music through creative activities at the Glucksman, developing a greater understanding of their own musical habits and how the music they listen to represents who they are and who they hope to become. Drawing inspiration from album artwork, mixtapes and the DIY culture of zines, the group of 27 participating teenagers, aged between 13-18 years, created risograph prints under the guidance of artist Shane O’Driscoll.
The artworks are exhibited at The Glucksman; Badly Made Books; Cork Flower Studio; Cork Opera House; Gate Cinema; Pink Moon café; Plugd Records; and Nano Nagle Place.
We hope that you will discover the artworks across the city during the month of October.

The Irish Heart Foundation has an ambitious plan to train over 100,000 people in life saving skills and CPR across communities over the next two years. The ASSERT Centre and the Health & Safety Office for Student Activity, UCC are collaborating with the Irish Heart Foundation to assist with achieving this ambitious aim. Hands for Life is a community CPR training programme, which offers free CPR training to communities across Ireland, to build a nation of lifesavers.
Every day in Ireland 13 people die from a cardiac arrest and around 70% of these happen at home. Unfortunately, just 6.5% of people in Ireland who have a cardiac arrest in a non-hospital setting survive. But CPR is an easy skill to learn and once you know how to do it, you could save someone's life.
All are welcome to attend one of our training sessions - as the aim is to train as many people as possible. Join us and be part of a nation of lifesavers.
Where: River Lee Hotel
When: Free one hour long sessions, Sunday 6th of October and Monday 7th of October.
