Sustainable Development Goals Book

6 Nov 2017

At the Cork Life Centre we are fortunate to work with a group of young people who are thoughtful, considerate and socially conscious-it takes little encouragement to engage them in topics or projects involving the goal and idea of making our world a better place to live. This October staff and students produced a book on the 17 Sustainable Development Goals with a student and a staff member responding to each of the goals and their importance in our lives.

This book has been a work in progress for some time beginning with a smaller project for the Junior Cert Schools Programme ‘Make A Book’. With the support of a grant from the Department of Employment Affairs and Social Protection we were able to make this project a reality. This is part of their public awareness funding initiative for the United Nations Day for the Eradication of Poverty which takes place on October 17th.

We hope the book will prove a positive and engaging way for young people and indeed everyone to engage with the SDG’s. We felt it was important to make the goals personal and give students ownership of them-at times sustaining and improving our world can seem insurmountable but rather than feeling that the task is too large and we cannot possibly hope as individuals to make an impact on global issues but we need to realise that we all have the power to make change. This idea is at the very core of this project and book ‘Cork Life Centre Sustainable Development Goals Perspectives.’
