Seminar Explores the Impact of an Irish NGO on UN SDGs and Financial Inclusion

Abstract:
The 17 SDGs are missing one important one. One, without which the others are difficult or impossible to achieve. In this lecture Ted O Sullivan outlines the work of a small Irish NGO which has a big impact on many of the SDGs in its areas of operation. It promotes a method which relies on people taking responsibility for their own development.
Profile:
Ted O’Sullivan is a long term volunteer in his local Credit Union (Douglas Credit Union Ltd.) and is an elected Credit Union officer since 1990. He was Chairman 2011-2015. Formerly a teacher of Mathematics at a Second Level Cork for more than 30 years, he then became a Lecturer/Tutor in the Centre for Co-operative studies in UCC (for the Diploma in Credit Union Studies, Degree in Mutual and Credit Union Business and MBS (Masters in Business Studies). Ted also holds a M. Comm. (2004). Nationally, Ted has given several presentations for ILCU training dept. He is a regular speaker at Credit Union Chapter level countrywide. He presented at the National Credit Union Supervisors’ Forum NSF and was a Tutor at UCC Credit Union Summer school (2002-10). He also lectures on ICOS Management Diploma Programme. Internationally, Ted was a speaker at WOCCU world forum and a volunteer with the Irish League of Credit Unions Foundation (ILCUF) since 2008. This involved working with IFAD (International Fund for Agricultural Development UN), ILO (International Labour Organisation), CCA (Canadian Cooperative Association), NCCUASL (National Cooperative Credit Union Association of Sierra Leone) and CUA Ghana. He has worked abroad in Ethiopia, Sierra Leone, Ghana and Uganda delivering training for the ILCU Foundation and delivered training virtually in Belize. Ted is a member of the Beara Historical Society, a keen follower of hurling, likes to swim, and has been interviewed many times on Credit Union matters, micro-credit and development, on this Irish language station.
