IMHLA and Legal Capacity Conference

On Saturday 9 April 2016, the Centre for Criminal Justice and Human Rights conference on Legal Capacity took place.

This conference was jointly hosted with the Irish Mental Health Lawyers Association.

The conference was chaired by her Honour Judge Susan Ryan, Specialist Judge of the Circuit Court. The main topic for discussion was the Assisted Decision-Making (Capacity) Act 2015. Speakers included Professor Peter Bartlett of University of Nottingham, Professor Mary Donnelly, School of Law, University College Cork,
Ms Louise Loughlin of the National Advocacy Service for People with Disabilities, Dr Alan Corkery, Consultant Psychiatrist and Ms Áine Hynes of St.John Solicitors. The conference convenors were Dr Darius Whelan of the School of law and Ms Joan Doran, solicitor.
