Synopsis
‘La Violencia’ documents the lives of the indigenous Mayan women of Guatemala. Guatemala is explored from its violent history to its current fragile state, through the personal stories of indigenous women and activists and narrated by Aidan Gillen.
Pia Janning holds a Degree in Law from U.C.C. and a Masters Degree in International Human Rights Law from the University of Essex. She has worked as Human Rights Officer in the Irish Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, on women’s rights projects in Thailand and Ireland and as the Legal Officer on economic, social and cultural rights for Amnesty International Ireland. Pia currently works with the Irish Council for Civil Liberties. She has travelled to Guatemala 3 times since 2011 with the German NGO Nuevo Dia e.V. and its Irish sister organization Hope Guatemala Ltd.
