LLM (Criminal Justice) Graduate, Rebecca Coen, Appointed Deputy Head of Prosecution Policy Unit

Rebecca Coen, a graduate of the LLM (Criminal Justice) at UCC, has been appointed Deputy Head of the Prosecution Policy Unit in the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions. The Unit was established in 2008. It is envisaged that the unit will advise the Director and Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions with regard to policy issues.
Following her graduation from UCC with an LLM (Criminal Justice) in 2005 Rebecca studied at the Honorable Society of King’s Inns and was called to the Bar in 2005. From 2005 she worked as a Judicial Research Assistant at the Four Courts. From 2006 to 2008 she worked as Legal Research Officer with the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.
Her publications include: “The Rise of the Victim – A Path to Punitiveness” and “The Decline of Due Process and the Right to Silence’s Demise” for the Irish Criminal Law Journal. She was also invited to contribute a book review for the 2007 volume of the British Journal of Criminology, entitled ‘Crime and Culture, An Historical Perspective’.
