Access to Justice for Deaf Victims of Crime in Ireland
On Tuesday 26th May 2015, the Centre for Criminal Justice and Human Rights hosted a research roundtable event at which the experiences of Deaf crime victims were considered and discussed by representatives from a broad and diverse range of Deaf organisations, victim support groups and criminal justice agencies. This event was organised by Dr. Gill Harold, linked to her postdoctoral research project entitled ‘Exploring the Experiences of Deaf Victims in the Spaces and Processes of the Irish Criminal Justice System’. This research is funded by the Irish Research Council, the support of which made this event possible. Presentations on the day were made by Prof. Lorraine Leeson, Ms. Teresa Lynch and Ms. Lucia Venturi (Justisigns Team, Centre for Deaf Studies, Trinity College Dublin), Ms. Margaret Martin (Director, Women’s Aid) and Dr. Gill Harold (CCJHR, UCC).
