Children's Week at the Faculty of Law - notice of seminars, a conference and a moot court event.
The Faculty of Law will host a number of key events in the coming week as follows:
- On Tuesday, March 6th, the Annual Moot Court (incorporating the James D Donegan Moot Court Prize) will take place in the Courthouse in Washington Street from 4.30-6pm. Four final year law students – Eoin Coffey, John Beechinor, Laura Hurley and Jane O’Leary – will present and defend legal submissions before two judges of the High Court Mr Justice Kevin Feeney and Mr Justice Frank Clarke (recently nominated to the Supreme Court bench) on the subject of mental capacity and pregnancy;
- On Wednesday, March 7th, we will host a day-long, IRCHSS-funded National Symposium on Children’s Research, in association with the ISS21 Children and Young People’s Research Cluster. This event is aimed at developing networks among children scholars from all disciplines and academic institutions and it will include sessions on research funding, engaging with the media and policy makers and research impact. - On Thursday, March 8th from 5.30 – 7pm, the Child Law Clinic, in association with PILA (the Public interest Law Alliance) convenes a seminar entitled ‘Dear Minister: Proposals for the Reform of Child Law in Ireland’. The event will hear short submissions from key academic contributors and solicitors on issues like child representation; guardianship; constitutional reform; alternative dispute resolution and child protection. - Finally, on March 9th the Child Law Clinic, with the support of IRCHSS, hosts an international child law conference ‘Challenges and Issues in Child Law Scholarship’ in BHSC G04 from 9am-4pm. This will hear from international child law and children’s rights scholars from the UK and Europe on child law reform, litigation and research.
