A second-hand book sale, organised by Dr. Patrick Kiely, Irish Cancer Society Research Fellow based in the Department of Biochemistry UCC, raised nearly €1500 for the Irish Cancer Society.
In conjunction with Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Dr. Patrick Kiely organised a second-hand book sale in the Biosciences Institute on Wednesday, 13 October, 2010, with all proceeds of the book sale going to the Irish Cancer Society. Donations of second-hand books were received from the UCC community, and staff in the Department of Biochemistry and PhD students in the PhD Scholars Programme in Cancer Biology donated their time, made cakes and served coffee/tea during the morning event.
Dr. Kellie Dean, Training Coordinator of the PhD Scholars Programme in Cancer Biology, said, “Dr. Kiely is scientist who has received research funding from the Irish Cancer Society, and this event was organised by him as a way of giving something back to the Society. He is a great example to our PhD students, and we hope to continue this event annually.”
Ms. Rose O’Dea accepted the cheque on behalf of the Irish Cancer Society following the event.
