Inspired by Pat Carlen’s 1985 book Criminal Women it includes a foreword by Pat Carlen and an endnote by Loraine Gelsthorpe. All the chapters focus on pioneering feminist biographical and/or participatory research with justice involved women. The book is a genuinely collective endeavour by the Criminal Women Voice, Justice and Recognition Network (University College Cork, University of York, Durham University, Leicester de Montfort University, Liverpool University) which centre women’s voices through a body of feminist research exploring the challenges women who are incarcerated and/or in the criminal justice system face.
