Musicologist Dr. Amy Brosius has been a Lecturer at the University of Birmingham since 2011. She completed her Ph.D. at New York University with Dr. Suzanne Cusick. Her research interests include seventeenth-century Italian singers, early modern gender construction, vocal music and singing culture. Her approach to research is interdisciplinary, employing methodologies from art history, critical theory, gender studies, and performance studies. Her article “Courtesan Singers as Courtiers: Power, Political Pawns, and the Arrest of virtuosa Nina Barcarola will be out in the Journal of the American Musicological Society in Summer 2020.
