The ERC Evaluation Process

European Research Council (ERC) awards are the cornerstone of the Excellence in Science pillar of Horizon 2020, and will continue in this role in Horizon Europe. ERC grants are designed to support ground-breaking , high-risk research that exists at the frontiers of knowledge and scholarship in any area of research and are awarded solely on the basis of the excellence of both the project proposed and the profile of the applicant.

This podcast – edited from an information event about ERC Grants held in May 2016 – outlines the process through which the ERC evaluates applications to its Starter and Consolidator Schemes (Advanced Grant applications are evaluated according to the same criteria but do not include an interview with PIs in Brussels).
