Health Research Board

This funding supports research that will provide evidence for the national and global efforts to deal with the virus outbreak. Grants are worth up to €200,000 each over six to 24 months. ***

Enhancing Learning and Research for Humanitarian Assistance

This aims to support research focusing on priority topics related to the current COVID-19 outbreak in humanitarian settings in low- and middle -income countries.

EIT Health – Head start for COVID-19 solutions

European Institute of Innovation and Technology

This supports healthcare start-ups in developing solutions that can strengthen the community and health systems until COVID-19 vaccines are ready. Grants are worth up to €50,000 and projects may last for up to six months.

Call for Access

European Network of Vaccine Research and Development

This supports and accelerates vaccine-related projects in the preclinical phase of development, by providing access to the services and expertise contained within the Transvac infrastructure. In addition to free access to services, Transvac may cover accommodation and travel costs.

Mobilisation of funding for COVID-19 research in sub-Saharan Africa

European and Developing Countries Clinical Trials Partnership

This supports research and innovation actions activities in sub-Saharan Africa on managing or preventing the spread of the current COVID-19 outbreak. Grants are worth up to €500,000 each.

Space in response to COVID-19 outbreak

European Space Agency

The tenderer will deploy and demonstrate services to respond to the emergency that Europe, and especially Italy, is facing because of the spread of the coronavirus. Funding covers up to 80 percent of acceptable cost worth a maximum of €1 million.

Summer fellowships – special round

Institute for Humane Studies

These support currently enrolled graduate students in the humanities and social sciences whose summer 2020 plans may have changed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Fellowships are each worth up to USD 15,000 per year and may be renewed.

COVID-19 rapid call for access to the octopus facility

Science and Technology Facilities Council

This enables researchers to use the Octopus imaging facility for research relevant to the SARS-CoV-2 virus and COVID-19. There are no charges for access to the facility for successful applicants.

Modern Language Association

These support part-time faculty members who have been financially affected by the COVID-19 outbreak. Grants are worth up to USD 500.

Notice of special interest – clinical and translational science award programme applications to address 2019 novel coronavirus public health need

NIH: National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences

This supports research on the 2019 novel coronavirus, with a particular focus on the use of informatics solutions to diagnose cases and advancing the translation of research findings into diagnostics, therapeutics and vaccines. The project duration is limited to the remaining active budget period for the parent award.

IBM Corporation

This recognises practical and sustainable open source solutions to mitigate the impact of COVID-19 and climate change. Five prizes are available, worth between USD 10,000 and USD 200,000.

Executive Agency for Small and Medium-sized Enterprises

This call supports the implementation of large territorial scale environmental and climate plans or strategies within the EU. Grants are worth on average €10 million at up to 60 per cent co-funding of eligible costs.

Urgency Grants Pilot

Arts and Humanities Research Council

This enables arts and humanities researchers to respond in an agile way to unanticipated urgent research needs and opportunities that meet a development need or challenge, or have the potential to support LMICs to address the UN sustainable development goals. Proposals may have eligible costs of up to £150,000 for up to one year and are funded at 80 per cent of full economic costs.

NIH: National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases

This supports research on coronavirus disease with a particular focus on viral natural history, pathogenicity and transmission. The maximum project duration is two years.

NIH: National Institute on Drug Abuse

These provide revision funding to active grants to address research collecting and examining data on the risks and outcomes for COVID-19 infection in individuals suffering from substance use disorders. Supplements are worth up to USD 100,000 each per year for a maximum period of two years.

If you are a scientist at an academic institution currently working on a COVID-19 related project and in need of funding, we invite you to apply for a Fast Grant. Fast Grants are $10k to $500k and decisions are made in under 48 hours. If we approve the grant, you'll receive payment as quickly as your university can receive it.
