The Quercus Taught Masters Academic Scholarship is open for submission of applications.
05 AprThe Scholarships are awarded to top-performing Postgraduate applicants to Masters courses across the University.
Applications are open to candidates who have (or are expecting) a minimum 1H Undergraduate honours bachelor degree (or equivalent result in a NFQ Level 8), or a 1H Postgraduate degree (or equivalent result in a NFQ Level 9).
Applicants must also demonstrate an exceptional level of academic excellence and commitment to their Masters course of choice, along with meeting the course entry requirements.
The Quercus Taught Masters Scholarship is a 50% contribution towards Postgraduate fees for the duration of the Postgraduate course.

A new Entrepreneurship Summer Camp for 2nd Level Students

UCC will host its first second-level Entrepreneurship, Creativity and Innovation Summer Camp. Cork University Business School, UCC’s College of Business and Law and Blackstone LaunchPad at UCC have received funding under the Government’s Action Plan for Jobs to deliver a one-week Entrepreneurship, Innovation and Creativity programme that will provide 30 students with new knowledge, develop their soft skills and expose them to business frameworks and entrepreneurial thinking.

14 MarProfessor Ursula Kilkelly, Head, College of Business and Law congratulated all of the students on their various scholastic achievements at a special ceremony celebrating the College's talented students at the Aula Maxima yesterday. Professor Ciaran Murphy, Dean, Cork University Business School presented parchments and paid tribute to the students on reaping the benefits of their hard work. The guest speaker Ms Sinead Kane herself a UCC School of Law Alumna and elite athlete provided a thought provoking and inspirational speech and presented parchments to the scholarship and parchment recipients.

08 MarQuercus Taught Masters Academic Scholarships will be awarded to top-performing postgraduate applicants to masters courses in 2017/18.
- 33 scholarships will be awarded to candidates who have a minimum 1H (or equivalent) in their undergraduate degree and who are deemed by their college of choice to demonstrate an exceptional level of academic excellence and commitment to their masters course of choice, as evidenced by their personal statement.

BSc BIS Announce Taster Day!
23 FebA "taster day" for Leaving Cert students has been announced by the BSc Business Information Systems degree to take place in UCC on Tuesday 10th May from 9.30am-1pm. Places are limited and early booking is advisable. To reserve a place at this event please contact Anne Wallace (a.wallace@ucc.ie). The schedule for the day is currently being finalised but promises to be a very interesting programme and suited to Leaving Certs who are, as yet, unsure of the CAO options.
Business Information Systems (BIS) is a four-year degree programme that specialises in key business and technology skills, providing students with an excellent springboard for a successful career within IS or business related sectors. BIS students study an interesting mix of business subjects such as Economics, Accounting, Management and Marketing. IT related subjects are also on offer covering topics like programming, web development, networking, systems analysis and database development. In third year, BIS students have the opportunity to work in industry for six months. The BIS Placement Programme allows students to take what they have learnt in lectures and practical sessions and apply it in an organisation. This paid placement means that BIS students have practical business experience before they complete their degree.

UCC Law Essay Competition

The UCC School of Law, Essay Competition has been a huge success! A record number of entries were received with entrants from almost every county in Ireland! The six competition winners attend schools in Galway, Cavan, Dublin and Cork and were presented with a certificate and cheque at the prize-giving ceremony on campus recently. The standard of essays this year was exceptional, making the adjudication task undertaken by the panel of experts from UCC’s Law School a difficult one! -

BComm International Showcase 2015
07 JanThe BComm International Showcase was in UCC on Tuesday 15th December last. A record number of students attended from over 30 schools in Munster. This is a one day taster programme where students have the opportunity to hear about the degree programme and the career opportunities available. In addition, students can also attend a language class to learn a new language for example Italian, Spanish, German or Chinese or they can choose their preferred language which they study in school such as French or Irish. A series of short business lectures is also provided to give prospective students insights into the content of the degree.

BComm Convention 7th May & Law Open Day 12th May
22 AprThe BComm Convention will take place in Boole 2 on Thursday 7th May. Schools are required to pre-book as places are strictly limited and are on a "first come, first served" basis.
A welcome address with be provided by the programme director Dr Noel Woods. This will be followed by information on the work placement, study abroad opportunities and research projects available to students in 3rd year of the programme. Information on each of the subject majors will be provided and the afternoon session will consist of a series of mini-lectures on business.

Bronze medals for Business Students in International Case Study Competition
26 MarA team from the College of Business and Law, UCC finished 3rd out of 20 International Business Schools following a week of CASE studies at the Royal Roads International Undergraduate Case Competition at Royal Roads Business School, Victoria, British Columbia.
The UCC team consisted of 3 students from BComm 4 [Darragh O’Drisceol, Laura Murphy and Aoife McCarthy] and Ronan O’Sullivan from BSc Finance 4 and received bronze medal for their achievement.

Novel embedded Business Certificate for Tyndall Doctoral students
02 DecThe first student on the PhD (Engineering Science) has successfully completed the Postgraduate Certificate in Innovation, Commercialisation and Entrepreneurship (level 9 qualification). This certificate is a novel and flexible embedded award that is offered by the College of Business & Law to Doctoral students in Tyndall National Institute taking the PhD(Engineering Science). The PhD(Engineering Science) is administered and coordinated by Tyndall as part of the INSPIRE national graduate education programme. Cormac Ryan is the first PhD student to complete the required modules, with many of his fellow students nearing completion.

Junior Certificate Excellence Awards
04 FebProfessor Irene Lynch-Fannon recently awarded parchments to students who achieved outstanding results in their Junior Certificate Examinations 2012. Five students from Regina Mundi and St Aloysius College, Carrigtwohill and Colaiste Muire, Cobh collectively achieved a total of 56 A’s. Two of these students achieved 12 As and were two of only 19 students in the country to have such success.

Castlecomer Community School, Castlecomer, Co Kilkenny won the €300 second prize for their project entitled “Sound Hats!” and St Munchin’s College, Corbally, Co. Limerick won the third prize worth €200 for their “Uconnect” project.
