The University acquired lands on the Mardyke in 2003 as part of a joint initative on the site. Cork City Council have developed a pedestrian bridge linking this property to UCC's existing property on the North Mall. The bridge formed a major element of the plan to extend the currently public walk way that commences in the Lee Fields and runs right into the heart of the city via Mardyke Gardens and the North Mall. Cork City Council has constructed this bridge and installed lighting to faciltate longer opening hours. The overall masterplan envisages the development of a new access and outreach building.
