Information Technology Foundation Stone Ceremony February 2008

12 Feb 2008

An Taoiseach Bertie Ahern TD officiated at the Information Technology Foundation Stone Ceremony on Friday 8th February 2008.

The IT building is the single biggest project in the University's ambitious €400m capital development programme.

It will provide much needed new lecture theatres, undergraduate teaching laboratories, research laboratories and a new riverside cafe.  The IT building will cost €67m funded through the HEA and private sources including Atlantic Philanthropies.

This flagship building will enhance the University's contribution to economic development by increasing activities in the area of ICT and biomedical sciences and will play a major role in supporting the attraction of inward investment to Cork in these key areas.

The project is a tangible demonstration of the Government's commitment to the delivery of world class facilities for the higher education sector in support of the development of Ireland's knowledge economy.  Work commenced on the project in September 2006 and is due for completion in March 2009.
