BEES and Athena SWAN
The School of BEES has received an Athena SWAN award for our ongoing commitment to promoting good employment practices for women in science in higher education. As part of writing this successful application, we identified obstacles in the career progression of women and developed specific actions how these obstacles can be overcome and how working conditions can be improved for everyone in the School. We also work with UCC and outside organisations to promote the careers of women in STEM subjects. More about Athena SWAN.
We are currently engaged in the following activities:
- Professors Sarah Culloty and Astrid Wingler feature on the UCC Athena SWAN Meet our Professors website
- Together with Women in Technology and Science, we organised a pizza party which took place in the School of BEES on 19th February
- BEES academic staff and PhD students are involved in launching the Irish Association for Women Geoscientists on 24th February at the Irish Geological Research Meeting organised by BEES
