Mike O'Connell

Biography

Mike O'Connell is a fourth year PhD candidate in the school of history at UCC. His thesis is a comparative analysis of urban/rural settlement patterns among Irish migrants in the major diaspora destinations (United States, Britain, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand). Mike studied at New York University during the 2008-9 academic year after receiving the Lewis Glucksman international fellowship, and was also an IRCHSS scholar from 2009-10. He has published in Saothor: Journal of the Irish Labour History Society, on the emigration of skilled miners from West Cork in the latter half of the nineteenth-century.
