Massey Lab
Professor Ruth Massey is a leading expert in microbiology, focusing on how bacteria cause diseases and resist antibiotics. She earned her degree in Natural Sciences and a Ph.D. in Molecular Microbiology from Trinity College Dublin. Her career includes research positions at the Universities of Oxford, Bath and Bristol. In 2021, she became the SALI Professor for Microbiome and Health Sciences at University College Cork (UCC).
At UCC, Professor Massey is a member of Theme 1, "Microbes to Molecules," at APC Microbiome Ireland. This research theme aims to understand how tiny organisms, like bacteria, interact with their environment and hosts.
The goal is to discover new ways to treat infections and develop health-promoting products. Professor Massey's work is crucial in addressing global health challenges, such as the rise of antibiotic-resistant infections. By studying the behaviour of harmful bacteria, she and her team aim to find innovative solutions to combat these threats.
