Host Microbe Dialogue

The Host Microbe Dialogue Theme aims to understand the molecular mechanisms that underpin functional microbe-host interactions in the gut and to utilise this information to develop novel therapeutic/interventational approaches.

Research Aims:

  • To understand the interactions between microbe-specific molecules and the host
  • To decipher the molecular effects of microbial bile acid metabolism on the host and determine the diagnostic and therapeutic implications of this interaction
  • To delineate microbiome alterations that accompany IBD and understand the functional implications of microbial changes for host disease
  • To investigate and exploit the gut microbiota in atheroclerosis and cardiometabolic syndrome utilising a novel pig model of the metabolic syndrome
