Mike Prentice
Biography
Michael holds the Chair of Medical Microbiology at UCC and is a Principal Investigator in the APC’s Infectious Disease core and a Consultant Microbiologist at Cork University Hospital. He is a medical graduate from the University of Birmingham, UK, and received his PhD in Microbiology from the University of London, following postgraduate study at the Institut Pasteur, Paris, France. He was a Senior Lecturer at Barts and the London Medical School. His research centres on bacterial genomicsand role of horizonatally trasmitted genes in bacterial pathogenicity and evolution; biomedical applications of bacterial microcompartments; molecular epidemiology of bacterial pathogens and pathogenic Yersinia species.
