Cork Alzheimer Cafe

About Us

The Cork Alzheimer Cafe, was established in 2012 by the Cork Alzheimer Cafe foundation (CAFe), in conjunction with St Finbarrs Hospital and the Departments of Gerontology and Rehabilitation and Old Age Psychiatry, University College Cork. Alzheimers Cafes were first founded in the Netherlands in late 1990s and have grown in number worldwide since. This is the second Alzheimer cafe in Ireland, the first outside of Dublin, and is modelled on international best practice.

Alzheimer cafes are informal meeting places, where people with memory problems, including Alzheimers disease and other dementias, their carers, families and friends can come together, free of charge.

The Who, Where, When and Why?

WHO? The Cafe is open to individuals with dementia, their support and carers. It is completely free of charge.

WHERE? The Cafe is located in the activities centre in the grounds of St Finbarrs Hospital, Cork City.
