‘I knew he was studying if his bike was outside the library – no mobile phones or social media in those days!’

It was a shared love of rowing that brought UCC alumni Paula Cogan and Mike Morris together. Now, 30 years later, married and parents to three children, the couple are sharing happy memories from their #ucclovestory.

What courses did you both student at UCC?

Arts, graduating in 1991 (Paula) and 1992 (Mike).

How did you first meet?

Paula: At UCC Rowing Club – we met across a boat of eight lads, with me at the cox!

What is your favourite memory from your time together at UCC?

Trips to regattas with UCC Rowing – It was always manic but great fun. Rowing took us all over Ireland and some of our good friends still remain those who we met through rowing. There were a number of romances blossomed on these trips away.

Is there a campus spot that has special meaning for you both?

Paula: The Boole Library – he was a Q3 regular and, I, on Q2. I knew he was studying if his bike was outside the library – no mobile phones or social media in those days!

Do you have a favourite song as a couple?

Billy Joel, Piano Man – a throwback to nights at The Maltings.

What is your favourite date night idea in Cork?

It has to be Café Paradiso and, of course, a cocktail at The River Lee.
