    Eiléan Ní Chuilleanáin - Alumni Achievement Award Winner

    2018 UCC Alumni Achievement Award winner, Professor Eiléan Ní Chuilleanáin is a poet and translator from Irish, Italian and Romanian.  Born 1942 in Cork, she is an Emeritus Fellow of Trinity College, Dublin, and currently Ireland Professor of Poetry (2016-2019).  She has published and edited academic articles and books on the literature of the English Renaissance, on translation, and on Irish writing in both Irish and English.  With three colleagues including her husband Macdara Woods, who died this year, she founded the Irish poetry journal Cyphers in 1975, and still edits it.

    Staf Gebruers Memorial Award

    Lorna O’Byrne, the 2018 awardee of the €2,000 prize, graduated this year with a First Class Honours in the Bachelor of Arts Degree, in both Music and Gaeilge (Joint Hons.).  Lorna is currently undertaking the Professional Masters of Education (Music) in the University of Limerick.

    UCC music lecturer wins €2 million global hip hop study grant

    UCC lecturer in Popular Music Studies, Dr J. Griffith Rollefson, has secured a €2m research grant to undertake the world’s first global study of hip-hop music and culture. The award from the European Research Council will fund a five-year project to study hip hop on six continents.
