SEFS Alumni News Winter 2019
SEFS Work Placement 2020
Recruitment of Science, Engineering and Food Science (SEFS) students for block work placement continues to be highly competitive with 90% of students securing an opportunity for 2020.
Work Placement Managers Linda Lynch, Clodagh Kerr and Yvonne Harding partner with industry throughout the year to develop graduate capabilities beyond discipline-specific knowledge and skills.
Work Placement Networking Evenings act as an official launchpad for students to meet employers during the first week of Semester One. This year, over sixty employers from Ireland and abroad attended this event across the Engineering and IT, Biopharma, Pharma, Food and Life Science sectors. Alumni engagement in these events is invaluable to students in finding out how their programme of study ties in with employment in a particular company.
Students are given the opportunity to avail of employability workshops in areas such as communication and presentation skills, team skills, and time management. Industry actively participates in this employability vision by providing topic-specific seminars, alumni presentations etc.
The introduction of the Integrated ME programme in Engineering has been warmly received by industry. Sixty-two students across the four engineering disciplines will commence work placement in January as part of the programme.
