Course Overview:
This course will prepare the student to understand the main concepts of the novel and how to write better fiction. The course will look at craft and writing, in relation to Plot, Characterisation, Narrative Arc, Themes, Structure, Point-of-view, among others.
The course will also help students to understand the publishing world, with help in writing synopsis, cover letters, agent requests, among others.
Each class will deal with in class writing and reading of students’ own work.

Course Lecturer :
Patrick Holloway is a writer and lecturer with a PhD and Master’s in Creative Writing. His debut novel, The Language of Remembering, will be published in February 2025. His story 'Checked Luggage' is the Irish Examiner Christmas Short Story 2024. He is listed in the Irish Independent as one of the writers to look out for in 2025. In 2023, he won the Bath Short Story Prize and was the recipient of the Paul McVeigh Residentcy. He is the 2021 winner of the Molly Keane Creative Writing Competition, The Allingham Flash Fiction Competition, and the Flash 500 competition. His work has been published by The Stinging Fly, Carve, Overland, The Irish Times, The Illanot Review, Scoundrel Time, Poetry Ireland Review, The Lonely Crowd, Write Bloody Publishing, New Voices Scotland, Papercuts, The Moth, Southword, among many others.
