Overview

Venue: Brookfield Health Sciences Complex, room 242, UCC

This course is designed for those who have a general interest in the area of Psychology. The course is run in a relaxed learning environment. The student has the opportunity to engage in group discussion on topics of interest. A diverse number of issues shall be explored each week. Students are provided with lecture notes. The classes are also supplemented by reference to current research papers on specific topics in Psychology.

Course Details

The Introduction to Psychology course shall explore the following topics. Social Psychology, Developmental Psychology, Human Memory and Perception, Research Methods in Psychology, Personality and Personality Disorders, Learning and Behaviour and the History and early origins of Psychology. As this course is introductory, students shall be introduced to some of the key theorists in each of these areas and directed towards relevant readings in the area.

Course Practicalities

This course consists of a two hour lecture each week. It is run over eight weeks. Lectures are presented via power point presentation. Students have the opportunity to ask questions and join in group discussion on the topics being delivered each week.
