Medicine and Health International Manager
Gearoid McCarthy is a graduate of UCC with a BA in Geography and History. He is currently undertaking a PhD at UCC in Social and Cultural Geography, with a research focus on migration to Ireland from the Philippines. Gearoid has substantial international work experience, particularly in Southeast Asia, including a five year period as Director of Education at the International Language Centre in Bangkok, Thailand. He has also lectured in Cultural Geography at UCC, and has been involved with university outreach programmes to Irish secondary schools, including one focussing on the very successful Cork University Press publication, Atlas of the Great Irish Famine.
Gearoid has been with UCC Academy for four years. Initially, he held the role of International Development Manager for Thailand and the Philippines, later expanded to include all of the ASEAN region. He is currently International Manager for College of Medicine and Health at UCC.
