UCC and the Irish Examiner are teaming up to host a live CAO clinic online for propsective students on Thursday 29 January from 4-5.30pm.

The 'CAO Deadline Approaching' session will allow Leaving Certificate students who have an interest in exploring what one of Ireland's most prestigious universities has to offer to seek instant answers to any question they might have. The normal closing date for CAO applications is on 1 February.

Questions can be submitted on the day directly over at www.ucc.ie/caolive and those who pre-register on that page will receive a text alert reminder. The expert panel is also happy to answer questions in advance by email using admissions@ucc.ie.

Questions on CAO applications, undergraduate courses or life as a first year student in UCC will all be discussed. The panel will also be able to offer general guidance and advice to students exploring their options after secondary school.

The UCC panel will include:

  • Danielle Byrne, Admissions Office
  • Sandra O’Herlihy, Admissions Office
  • Loretta Brady, College of Arts, Celtic Studies & Social Sciences
  • Anne Wallace, College of Business & Law
  • Patricia O’Shaughnessy, College of Science, Engineering & Food Science

The Irish Examiner and UCC will also partner on an online Q&A session for prospective postgraduate students on Tuesday 3 February from 1.10pm-1.50pm focusing on UCC’s traditional and online postgraduate offerings. The Q&A will be hosted at www.ucc.ie/postgradlive and will give participants an opportunity to put questions to another expert panel from UCC. Prospective students will also welcome UCC’s Postgraduate Open Day 2015, taking place on Tuesday 10 February from 11-3pm in Devere Hall, Student Centre on UCC’s main campus.

The software used to run both online Q&A events is an application created by Pubble, a Cork based tech start-up co-founded by UCC graduate John Dineen from Kinsale.

Students who plan on attending UCC will soon see that 2015 is a particularly special year for the university as it celebrates the bicentenary of genius George Boole. The first Professor of Mathematics at UCC (1849-64), Boole’s pivotal advances in mathematics, logic and probability provided the essential groundwork for modern mathematics, microelectronic engineering and computer science. His influence is such that he has been called the father of the digital age. 2015 is his 200th birthday and UCC is celebrating his life and legacy with a series of major events during the year. See more at GeorgeBoole.com or even follow Boole himself on Twitter @GeorgeBoole200
