Great range of short courses on offer in UCC this autumn/winter.

“We have made food both our God and our enemy,” says Regina Sexton of UCC’s Centre for Adult Continuing Education.  “How we perceive ourselves and how we perceive others is often played-out in our problematic and contradictory relationships with food and in particular, fat. First world problems some might say, but these contemporary issues are emerging concerns with cultural, social and economic fall-out.”

This year’s short course programme at University College Cork, has taken on-board for debate issues that are increasingly part of our daily lives, like obesity, dementia and Asperger’s Syndrome. Instead of shying away from these issues, we invite students to these courses to consider the issues and maybe start to think about them in different ways.

Adult Continue Education at UCC has an established record in offering different, novel and sometimes unique courses and in this ways it brings cutting-edge research findings to the public arena, and this year is no different with courses in, Positive Psychology, An Introduction to Political Psychology and The Internet and Child Exploitation.

Adult Continuing Education at UCC has been running an extensive short course programme since 2006. We are now one of the country’s leading providers of short courses at third level and our autumn/winter programme begins at the end of this month.

With almost 50 short courses on offer from across the University’s four colleges, we provide ample opportunity for people to sample areas of study which they might like to continue at an accredited and higher level. Therefore, at ACE we like to assure people that it is never too late to consider University and that learning is indeed a lifelong activity.

However, we also believe that learning is not simply classroom-based and many of our courses bring students to different sites of learning with complimentary fieldtrips to Vienna, Venice and Rome. In broadening the learning experience, we also have strong partnerships with Cork City Libraries, The Glucksman Art Gallery, UCC, and Fota House and Gardens in East Cork, where students can immerse themselves in environments relevant to their course of study.
