The BA (Hons) (Geographical and Archaeological Sciences) is a three-year, full-time honours degree programme.

To be eligible for the award of the BA (Hons) (Geographical and Archaeological Sciences) degree a student will be required to have achieved 180 credits by obtaining 60 credits in each of First, Second, and Third Arts (Geographical and Archaeological Sciences). A student may not register for more than 60 credits in one year.

The BA (Hons) (Geographical and Archaeological Sciences) (International) Pathway is a four-year programme which enables students to study abroad for a year in an approved University outside Ireland.


Students take the subjects of Archaeology, Geography, Computer Science, and Biological, Earth and Environmental Science (15 credits each).

Programme Requirements

Students take 60 credits as follows:

Archaeology
AR1001 (15 credits)
Biological, Earth and Environmental Science
BL1004, EV1002, GL1001 (5 credits per module)
Computer Science
CS1201 (15 credits)
Geography
GG1013, GG1014, GG1015 (5 credits per module)

Examinations
Full details of regulations governing Examinations for each programme will be contained in the Marks and Standards 2021/2022 Book, and for each module in the Book of Modules, 2021/2022.

No student may register for Second Arts (Geographical and Archaeological Sciences) until s/he has passed the First University Examination in Arts (Geographical and Archaeological Sciences). The selection of any module is conditional on the Professor or Lecturer concerned and the College being satisfied that a student is capable of profiting by attendance thereat. Students may not select modules which involve a timetable clash.

Student who wish to take the four-year option with a year abroad must register for the BA (Geographical and Archaeological Sciences) (International) Pathway at the beginning of Second Year.

In Second Arts (Geographical and Archaeological Sciences), students take 40 credits of Geography modules and Archaeology modules plus elective modules to the value of 20 credits.

Students take 60 credits as follows:

Core modules (40 credits)
AR2016, AR2037 (5 credits each) AR2046 (10 credits)
GG2005, GG2010, GG2037, GG2038 (5 credits per module)

Elective modules (20 credits)
Students select 20 modules from the following (as timetables allow):
AR2014, AR2033, AR2034, AR2038, AR2042, AR2047, CS2211, CS2212, EV2002, GG2014, GG2023, GG2024, GG2025, GG2046, GS2001, GS2002, ZY2000 (5 credits per module)

Examinations

Students select 25 credits from the following, taking at least two modules in Archaeology (AR) and at least two in Geography (GG), as timetables allow:
AR3037, AR3047, AR3052, AR3054, AR3055, AR3056, GG3001, GG3007, GG3009, GG3010, GG3027, GG3037, GG3041, GG3043, GG3056 (5 credits per module)
