Dear Alumni and Friends,. I am happy to write this introduction to the 2002 edition of the Faculty of Law Newsletter. The editorial committee for the Newsletter decided this year to focus on student achievements and for that reason we have featured the conferrings as a centre piece to this edition. In addition we have a feature on the students' law conference and on various student achievements and activities. We have also continued to provide you with information in relation to staff achievements and activities. The students and staff of the Faculty and Department of Law at University College Cork have yet again demonstrated a great deal of commitment to the development of legal discourse and in particular have sought to engage the wider public in policy debates which are of interest to all.

The law school at University College Cork is continuing to expand. As you will see two new appointees are featured in our pages and it is likely that the coming year will see the further expansion of staff here. We continue to be successful in the area of IT, in particular in relation to funding of the BAILII and IRLII project. This newsletter will also be available on our website, which is well worth a virtual tour. The Cork Online Review edited by the students was launched in March and will be featured in our next newsletter. We have continued to grow in relation to funded research activities and this will no doubt yield enormous benefits over time.
Finally we would welcome feedback and information from you and have provided you with information in relation to contacting the Graduates Association if you wish to do so. Our alumni connections are very important to us and we look forward to meeting you and to featuring your news in future editions.
Professor Irene Lynch Fannon, Dean of the Faculty and Head of the Department of Law,University College Cork.
