Research projects

As part of the MSc course, students will carry out a three-month research project in a research group in UCC or in an external university, research institute or industry. This will provide the opportunity to apply their knowledge and skills in bioinformatics to a cutting edge research question.

Research Papers by Our MSc Bioinformatics students

Several of the research projects carried out by our MSc Bioinformatics students have led to research papers, including:

• Genome mining for radical SAM protein determinants reveals multiple sactibiotic-like gene clusters (PLoS ONE 2011)
• Identification of evolutionarily conserved non-AUG-initiated N-terminal extensions in human coding sequences (Nucleic Acids Research 2011)
• Molecular evolution of the LNX gene family (BMC Evolutionary Biology, 2011)
