| Beginners' Course
in Spanish. [15 credits] |
|
The Department of Hispanic Studies offers a beginners' course in the language to First Year students who have not studied Spanish formally at Secondary Level, but who have passed with at least a C/C1 grade in a modern continental language in the Leaving Certificate (Higher Level) or equivalent examination. Students may also be considered for inclusion in the above course who have obtained at least a C/C1 grade in Latin in any of the above examinations, or who can demonstrate a clear ability to study modern languages successfully. This course consists of the following:
HS1001: Introductory Course in Written and Oral Spanish for Beginners. [10 credits]
The course offers an introduction to the Spanish language.
HS1003: Introduction to Hispanic Studies. [5 credits]
The course examines the cultural traditions of Spain and Latin-America as expressed in a selection of representative literary texts.
Note: Students must register for Beginners Spanish with the Arts Faculty and the Department of Hispanic Studies during the first week of term. No student may transfer to Beginners' Spanish after that week.
| Our aim is to bring first-year beginners of Spanish up to a level that will enable them to join the non-beginners in second year. To this end we offer students a 24-week course which provides an excellent grounding in both grammar and communicative skills. |
