Constitution
1. Name
The name of the Club shall be the Mountaineering Club, University College, Cork.
2. Object
The object of the Club shall be to promote and encourage all forms of mountaineering
in University College, Cork.
3. Membership

Membership is open to all individuals who have been a student or a member of
staff at U.C.C. in the nine months prior to the current date.

Members shall only have voting rights if they have attended three
Mountaineering Club events in the nine months prior to the current date. A Club
weekend counts as one event. Three Club sessions at the UCC indoor climbing
facilities count as one event. Six Club sessions at the UCC indoor climbing
facilities count as two events. Further Club sessions are not counted.

Members whose conduct is seriously prejudicial to the Club shall be liable to
suspension or expulsion from the Club. Proposals for suspension shall require a
two-thirds majority and those for expulsion an unanimous decision of the entire
Committee.
4. Management

The affairs of the Club where possible should be under the control of a committee
composed of nine (9) members which shall include Captain, Vice-Captain, Hon.
Secretary, Treasurer, at least one First Year student and a non-voting staff
Representative. Only those with voting rights and intent on registering as
students at UCC the following year may stand for committee positions. The Captain
shall be entitled to make rulings and to take steps to ensure proper conduct of
meetings.

The Committee shall meet at least once every three weeks during term. A quorum
shall be one half plus one of the full Committee.

The existing Committee shall have the power to co-opt members to fill vacancies.
5. Meetings

The Annual General Meeting of the Club shall be held in the latter half of the
college year, the date of which shall be determined by the committee. The Agenda
shall include Minutes, Secretary's Report, Financial Report, Election of Officers
and Committee.

In determining the date on which the Annual General Meeting shall be held, the
committee shall have as their primary consideration the facilitation of the greatest
possible attendance of eligble voters.

An Extraordinary General Meeting shall be called by the Hon. Secretary at the request
of the Committee or one-sixth of the members of the Club.

Any member who wishes to propose a motion may do so only is he/she has informed the
Hon. Secretary in writing one week prior to the Annual General Meeting.

The Constitution of the Club may only be changed at the Annual General Meeting and a
two-thirds majority vote is required to do so.
6. Affiliation

The Club shall be affiliated to the Mountaineering Council of Ireland.

The Club shall co-operate with kindred associations in matters of mutual interest.
7. Club Meets
-
All Club meets shall have a leader.

All members participating at a meet abide by the decisions of the leader.

The leader shall act at all times to ensure the safety of the party to the best
of his/her ability.

Leaders shall be approved and appointed by the Committee whose decision shall be
based on an assessment of the candidate’s experience.

In the matter of leadership deference shall be paid to the advice of those having
greater experience or holding recognised mountain leadership qualifications.
8. General principles

Activities of the Club shall be arranged to facilitate and encourage the education
and training of members in the techniques of mountaineering.

Members shall know and observe the Country Code.

The Club shall not be bound by the results of any individual action of a member taken
without Committee approval.

That the website be kept up to date and in good order

Should an incident occur during a club outing, a review board, selected by the committee (which may include but is not limited to external relevantly qualified persons, but should not include persons involved in the incident) will be set up, whose recommendations are to be implemented by the committee
