There are a range of different commercial activities that take place within the Bantry Bay coastal zone. Some of these have provided livelihoods for the people who live here for thousands of years (such as, agriculture and fisheries), and others have been developed relatively recently (such as, aquaculture and tourism). Many of these activities are closely linked to the environment of the coastal zone; either generating production directly from the environment (as in fishing, agriculture, aquaculture and quarrying) or by making use of scenic landscape of the area (as in tourism).
The following information is intended to outline the main types of production that go on in the Bantry Bay coastal zone. Data on most of these activities is not collected at a local level which limits the information that can be presented.
