Michael graduated from Trinity College and completed a surgery residency in Cork University Hospital, followed by two years of surgery research as an MD Fellow at the Department of Surgery, John Hopkins Medical Institutions, Baltimore, USA. Michael then did a radiology residency at the Mater Misericordiae Hospital, and subsequently a Fellowship in Abdominal Imaging and Interventional Radiology at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston and Harvard Medical School. He then took up the position of staff radiologist in the Divisions of Abdominal Imaging and Intervention and Thoracic Radiology at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston and as Instructor in Radiology at Harvard Medical School, and later became Assistant Professor of Radiology at Harvard Medical School. Michael is currently Professor of Radiology at UCC and Consultant Radiologist at Cork University and Mercy University Hospitals. Michael’s research interests are radiation dose optimization in CT scanning, focussing on abdominal and thoracic imaging, technology assessment and radiation dose optimisation in computed tomography.
