Paul Ross Appointed Head of Food Research at TeagascAPC Principal Investigator Professor Paul Ross has been appointed as Head of Food Research at Teagasc, the Irish Agriculture and Food Development Authority. Professor Ross has responsibility for providing overall leadership for the Teagasc food research and innovation programme which is delivered at the two research centres - Moorepark in Cork and Ashtown in Dublin. The food research programme has a budget of €18 million and is designed to meet the research and innovation needs of the Irish food industry. more |

An APC one day event, ‘Entrepreneurship - How to create a technology start-up’, was held in Devere Hall, University College Cork, on Tuesday, June 9th, 2009. Chris Horn, founder of Iona Technologies, gave a keynote address on Entrepreneurship and Innovation, and Cormac Kilty, founder of Biotrin, presented on the 4 pillars to success – Technology, Market, Team and Finance. | Recent Conferring's

On Friday, March 27th, 2009, Dr Catherine Stanton and her husband, Professor Paul Ross, became the first ever couple to be conferred simultaneously with a Doctorate of Science (DSc) from the National University of Ireland (NUI). The DSc is the highest academic honour awarded by the NUI and is based on consistent excellence in scientific research in a specific area. Dr Stanton and Professor Ross are based at the Teagasc Food Research Centre in Moorepark, Fermoy and are Principal Investigators in the APC and in the Food for Health Research Centre (FHI). More At the same Spring Conferring's Ceremony at UCC were APC scientists Dr Evelyn Clayton and Dr Ian Monk, who were both conferred with PhD degrees, and Ms. Breda Kearney, who was conferred with an MSc. Congratulations to all on their achievements! |

Congratulations to Ms. Julie O’Donovan from the Department of Mathematics, UCC, winner of the ScienceSpeak Intervarsity Competition, 2009! Julie, who is supervised by Dr Tom Carroll, presented the topic “Collections of spherical obstacles that Brownian motion can avoid ”. This is the second consecutive year that a UCC student has won this competition. More
