NEW HOME FOR HEEU

The HEEU has relocated to new premises at 5 Bloomfield Terrace, Western Road, Cork.

The former Minister for Education and Science, Micheal Martin, formally launched the new premises on 29th October 1999. The launch provided an opportunity for reflection on and celebration of the achievements of the HEEU over the seven years of its work. The staff and Management Board of the HEEU were joined by a wide range of colleagues from colleges and organisations throughout the country who came to Cork to join in the celebration and view the new premises.

The gathering was addressed by Michael Martin, former Minister for Education and Science; Orla Egan, Director of the HEEU; Gerry Wrixton, President of UCC and Eamon Tuffy, Chairperson of the HEEU Management Board. The Minister commended the HEEU on its work over the years and expressed his support for progressing educational equality in Ireland.

The space available to the HEEU has increased significantly with the move to the new premises. Of particular importance is the ground-floor accessible location for the HEEU Resource centre. Considerable effort has been made to ensure that the Resource Centre is user-friendly and accessible to all.

The HEEU is grateful to UCC for allocating the premises at Bloomfield Terrace to the HEEU and for their assistance in the renovation and refurbishment of the offices. We are also grateful to the HEA for their financial support for the relocation.
