Having worked with the Unit since its inception in 1992 Orla Egan left to begin a new life concentrated on research late in 2000.
Orlas contribution to the development and direction of the HEEU is immeasurable. She was instrumental in developing all aspects of the work of the Unit during her eight years as Organiser and Director of the Unit. Here at the HEEU we miss her critical and insightful comments. Orlas implicit and broad understanding of equality issues has been central in developing a vision of a more inclusive learning and work environment within the sector. The energy she emitted in promoting this agenda has indeed been a force in engaging all those working within the Unit, and we are sure, within the broad range of contacts she has had through her work. It has meant that the HEEU has been at the forefront in promoting an equality agenda and of foreseeing and addressing emerging issues.
Orla will be missed by the staff and Management Board of the Unit and indeed, by all those with whom she came into contact in the course of her work. We wish Orla well in her future and know that her interest in equality will see our paths merge in the future in new and exciting ways. So, lets not say goodbye, rather go fóill or baadai, Orla!
