The Boole Prize

Overview of the Competition

The Boole Prize is a lecturing competition open to all undergraduates in UCC. Each student participating gives a fifteen minute original presentation to the attending audience and our panel of three judges. The topic of any one of these talks is entirely up to the student involved and can generally be about anything. However there is one small restriction; it must have something to do with mathematics.

From viewing the list of previous titles, it can be seen that these talks are not generally genius level mathematics but usually just something that interests the student, is quite funny or just something they have worked on.

Presentations Types

This competition judges entrants on both the subject content and their actual presentation. Therefore choosing the proper method to display your work is important. The use of props, the data projector (for powerpoint, internet or programs), the overhead projector, or even the good old fashioned blackboard are all allowed. In fact any feasible method you can think of can be used. Sometimes the stranger the better!!
