UCC Staff Athletic Club
|
A total of 130 runners from all over Ireland
participated in the Staff Athletic Club's annual l0 kilometre
Road Race making it one of the most competitive and popular
races in the calendar.
Club members have been prominent on the road and track throughout
the past season with highlights from Mick Dunne, General Services,
who was selected to run the Boston Marathon in April 2000
and Ger Kiely, Civil Engineering, winning on the track in
the Cork County Championships. Pat Ryan, Buildings and Estates,
has the Great North Run in his sights this Autumn and Áine
Murphy and Bernie O'Connell, both in Microbiology, continue
to dominate women's races in the BHAA calendar. Billy O'Rourke,
Computer Science, won the Garda 4 mile Road Race last May
and John O'Riordan, Physics, made his come back this season
after injury with a succession of wins on the track.
The Club is always on the lookout for new members, so if your
taste runs from a friendly lunchtime jog around the Lee Road
to something a little more ambitious, like a marathon, drop
in at the Mardyke around 1pm any day.
