STUDY ON ASSISTED HUMAN REPRODUCTION

Deirdre Madden Deirdre Madden has just completed her PhD thesis on the law relating to Assisted Conception in Ireland. Deirdre will be conferred with her doctorate this coming September.
Ms Deirdre Madden, Law, has recently been appointed to the Commission on Assisted Human Reproduction set up by the Minister for Health & Children, Michaél Martin, TD. The terms of reference of the Commission are to prepare a report on the possible approaches to the regulation of all aspects of assisted human reproduction and the social, ethical and legal factors to be taken into account in determining public policy in this area. The Commission is to consider alternatives to legislation such as reliance on medical ethics and opinions from interested members of the public. It will consult with service providers, consumers, philosophical and theological experts as well as relevant people in Northern Ireland and the UK. It is expected that given the difficult nature of the issues to be examined, the Commission will need at least a year to report.
