Project Objectives

The principal objective of the INUSE project is to set up a network of Usability Support Centres for the European information engineering industry. INUSE will produce a basic information pack consisting of guides to: user-centred design, usability validation and multi-media design. The guidance will be specifically design to assist in the choice of cost-effective methods for use in development environments which may not have any previous human factors expertise. A usability process assessment extension will be proposed for the SPICE methodology, assessing against ISO 13407 (Human-centred design).

The second objective of INURES is to provide a portfolio of state-of-the-art usability services to the European information engineering industry, to support the development of systems which meet the needs of users and have quality IN USE. On-site visits will be made to selected organizations to assess the maturity of human-centred process in their systems lifecycle, and assist with the trial application of INUSE methods to achieve user-centred design. The end result will be quantitative measurement methods and cost effective technologies for usability engineering that been developed, tried, and tested in the European marked. This will give Europe the capability to develop information systems which closely match user needs, resulting in greater productivity and employee satisfaction, and a bigger potential share of the world market.
