Planning and Reporting
User Validation
An important part of Information Engineering projects is the drawing up of a user validation plan, preferably early in the project. The purpose of the Validation Plan is to make user-based validation activities explicit and thus amenable to planning and review.
As the project progresses, one or more user validation reports will be issued. User validation reports should feed into project development when the validation activities take place during the project, and when they take place towards the end of the project, they should feed into exploitation plans and other plans for the post-funded phase of the project.
We have been asked several times for some kind of outline of what is expected in a validation plan and validation report. Two documents have currently been developed which are suggestions that no doubt each project will tailor to their own specific needs. These outlines have grown out of considerable experience of writing, reviewing, and having to explain these kinds of reports both within EC-funded projects and for the IT industry. All comments of course are welcome, and so are completed exemplars of such reports, which will be kept in strict confidence unless otherwise requested.
You may download versions of these outlines from this page via ftp transfer, or you may go to the BASELINE File Archive page. The files are:
