The University has outstanding indoor and outdoor sports facilities, notably 72 acres of playing fields at its Mardyke and Curraheen sites and an indoor sports complex, the Mardyke Arena.

There is high level participation of students in sport and recreation activities at UCC with over half of the student body involved in some sport or recreation.  UCC sports teams and individual athletes have a record of success in intervarsity and other competitions second to none. 

UCC Mardyke Sports Grounds has a Rugby/Soccer Pitch, Synthetic Pitch, GAA Pitch and an International standard Athletics Track – all fully floodlit. Dressings rooms are located at the GAA Pitch and Rugby/Soccer Pitch.

Mardyke Arena Indoor Sports Centre: Facilities include: a 25M swimming pool, children’s pool, sauna, steam room, 3 sports halls, dance & aerobics studio, 2 squash courts, climbing wall, 2 fitness centres, Human Performance Laboratory, Martial Arts studios, Treatment room, and Nosh & Coffee Café.

Since its inception the Arena has undergone a major extension and further developments are currently planned.

The Mardyke Arena provides a comprehensive Recreational programme for the student who just wants to partake in some form of recreational activity – aerobics, circuits, yoga, spinning, etc.

UCC Playing Fields Curraheen Road: Facilities include: 3 Rugby Pitches (2 floodlit), 2 GAA Pitches, 7 Soccer Pitches (1 floodlit), 2 Cricket Wickets – 1 synthetic wicket, 1 grass wicket. Dressing rooms to facilitate 10 teams.

These grounds cater for many different sporting tournaments and several different sporting groups.

In addition to your conventional sports: Ultimate Frisbee, Tag Rugby, Rugby League, Softball, American Football League, Cross Country Running, etc are all catered for at this venue.
