Connecting Your Computer - Obtaining your Ethernet Address

- Microsoft Windows 95/98/ME:
- Start -> Run -> winipcfg -> OK
- Click on "MORE INFO"
- Make sure you are looking at the Network card and not the PPP connection information (top drop-down box).
- Adapter Address: This string of hexadecimal numbers represents the hard-coded identification number assigned to the network adapter when it was manufactured. This is the Ethernet Address that you are looking for.
- Microsoft Windows NT/2000/XP:
- Start -> Run -> cmd -> OK
- In the DOS box type: ipconfig /all
- Physical Address (Ethernet Address): string of hexadecimal numbers
- This will only work if the network cable is plugged into a live wall point.
- MacOS X:
- Go to the Apple Menu
- Select "About this Mac"
- Select "More info"
- Apple System Profiler will be launched.
- Under system profile, look for Network Overview
- Look for "Ethernet Address"
- MacOS:
- Go to the Apple Menu
- Go to Control Panels
- Open Apple Talk.
- Go to File
- Select "Get Info..."
- Look for "Hardware Address"
- NB!
- If you cannot find the Ethernet address after following these instructions, please consult your computer's documentation. It may mean that you have a modem installed instead of an Ethernet Card(Network Card). If this is the case, you will have to purchase an Ethernet Card before you can get connected to the Network.
