Getting Connected to the UCC Network

Power up the computer. Contact the helpdesk at extension 567

The helpdesk will ask you the following details and details from the computer:

  • Your name,
  • Department,
  • Extension no.,
  • Email address,
  • Location( as in the room, building etc),
  • Operating System,
  • Wall box Number,
  • Ethernet address (also known as the MAC address. Follow this link or above for more detailed information),
  • Make & Model of PC/Laptop.

A call will be logged to network the computer. The user will be contacted before someone drops out to network the machine.

Laptops:

The same details as above will be requested and the user will be contacted asking them to drop the laptop up to the Computer Centre. Networking will GENERALLY take 1-2 days after the laptop is dropped up.

Files can be transferred from an old machine to the new machine if it was requested while initally logging the call with the helpdesk.
